About EM FE Volunteering Programme
The programme is designed to work alongside current Step into Sport, Leadership Academies and other voluntary schemes within each college. This brand has provided an individual identity for FE and has not replaced existing schemes that are currently in operation. It has maximised the opportunities that are available and will also provide a resource for those that are in the early stages of developing leadership and volunteering.
EMDA have supplied branded posters and leaflets to promote the scheme and local volunteering opportunities for students. Branded incentives such as water bottles, t-shirts and rucksacks have also been provided to reward students for completing set amounts of volunteering hours, which they will complete within local community clubs, schools or within the college.
12 Colleges piloted the programme in 2009 and it has since been made available to all AoC East Midlands FE Colleges. These Colleges and the programme have been promoted within the local community and to National Governing Bodies (NGBs), thus enabling students to increase their experience and expertise by volunteering at local sporting events. These students have, and will continue to be linked into National/International sporting events held across the region.
Students will be able to keep in touch through an
East Midlands Young Volunteers social networking
page 'Studenthub' whereby volunteering opportunities
can also be publicised. Nominations for FE Volunteer
of the Year will be taken from each of the institutions
taking part, which will be assessed by a panel and
the winner will be celebrated across the region.
The winner for 2009 was Chris Graves from Grantham
College, who received his award from the Chief Executive
of LOCOG Paul Deighton. The winner of the award in 2010
is Connor Hardy from South Nottingham College.
