Mission‘Through partnership working we aim to provide and promote quality opportunities for students in the FE sector to participate in sport, physical activity and volunteering and to encourage a healthy lifestyle.’
- Offer strategic guidance, planning and partnership working.
- Support the East Midlands FESCo and college sporting network.
- Strive towards the target of all 16-19 year olds completing a minimum of 3 hours
of sport or physical activity per week.
- Raise the profile of FE sport throughout the region
The Association of Colleges (AoC)The AoC exists as the essential, influencing voice of colleges. The East Midlands region represents 27 member colleges on a whole range of topics and has a Sports Strategy Steering group. This group has resulted in all AoC East Midlands colleges agreeing to
fund a Regional Sports Strategy Co-ordinator with the remit:
- to be an advocate for sport in Further Education (FE) and to
raise the profile and share best practice.
- to encourage joined up working and increasing provision by developing
relationships with key partners such as National Governing Bodies (NGBs), County Sports Partnerships (CSPs) and local groups such as Community Sport Networks (CSNs).
- to act as a regional co-ordinator for FESCos by developing county working groups/task finish groups and sharing best practice, advice and funding.
Further Education Sport Co-ordinators (FESCos)Further Education Sports Co-ordinators (FESCos) are an exciting new initiative from the Youth Sports Trust. In 2008/09 all colleges will have FESCos who will be working for a minimum of two days per week within each FE institution. FESCos have a remit:
- to drive the development of and enhance college-based recreational sport
enrichment programmes and competitive opportunities for students aged 16-19.
- to support, train, develop and deploy sports leaders, volunteers and officials
aged 16-19, through existing programmes such as Step into Sport.
- to act as the main link person for the college engaging with the SSP and local
sporting infrastructure, through CSPs, NGBs and CSNs.
